Studio Art Classes Internship

Museum of Fine Arts, Boston -- Studio Art Classes Internship

The Education Department is responsible for programs that give visitors of all ages the opportunity to make direct connections with the Museum’s collection and exhibitions. The Department is organized into six sections: Academic Engagement; Gallery Learning; Planning and Evaluation; Interpretation; School Programs and Teacher Resources; and Studio and Community Arts. The Department offers internships to college students who enjoy working with people and are interested in learning more about the many facets of Museum Education. Experience with art is not necessary but sometimes proves helpful. An internship acquaints students with the Museum’s collections and programs and provides the opportunity to explore a variety of career possibilities.

Studio Art Interns are enlisted as volunteer Teaching Assistants (TA’s) to assist with the Summer Kids and Teen Studio Art Class program at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. These are week-long, theme-based Studio Art Classes offered to children (ages 5-11) and teens (ages 12-18) that take place in the Museum’s galleries and classrooms within the MFA. Studio Art Interns assist with these classes by helping children to understand a range of art concepts, experiment with art materials, and explore the galleries. Interns will have the opportunity to design and teach their own lesson and/or implement a gallery visit and Visual Thinking Strategies inquiry with students. This is a valuable opportunity for those interested to explore a teaching career in elementary and/or high school education and to gain pre-practicum experience when applying to graduate programs.
