Summer 2019 "Project Homeless" Internship

Project Homeless is a Seattle Times initiative that explores and explains the region’s complex, troubling problem of homelessness. With strong watchdog reporting and vivid storytelling, Project Homeless seeks to spotlight what is working, and what is not working, in responding to homelessness. And, we also feature solutions-oriented reporting from elsewhere in the country.

We're seeking a full-time reporting and engagement Intern to join our four-person team this summer, with the possibility of extending into fall. Duties would include reporting; collaborating with photographers and other visual journalists on multimedia projects; research and data analysis; digital engagement (using social media, Hearken and other tools); and providing support for in-person events such as reporter meet-and-greets and public panels and debates.

This internship is open to any college student (including graduating seniors) attending a four-year college or university, as well as graduate students. Applicants must be journalism majors or have a demonstrated commitment to print or digital publishing, possess social media skills, and be digitally astute. Internship experience at other news organizations is a plus, as is demonstrated interest in social issues such as homelessness, public health, addiction or criminal justice. If you have some, but not all of these qualifications, let us know what alternative experiences you bring to our team.

As a family owned and operated organization, we are dedicated to the local and regional community we serve and proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer.
