ESPN Career Trek

The Gordon Career Center is offering an off-campus career trek opportunity to visit ESPN's headquarters in Bristol, CT on Friday, October 18th.  Students will meet with Rob King '84, senior vice president, original content to learn about what it takes to oversee ESPN's entire portfolio of storytelling assets including ESPN The Magazine, ESPN Films, 30 for 30, Outside the Lines, and E:60.  Meet other ESPN staff to learn about positions in a large media company and how ESPN teams work together. Participate in the ESPN Career Trek to explore your career interests in media, journalism and the sports industry. The visit will also include a walking tour of ESPN's Bristol campus and studios.  

PROGRAM DATES & INFORMATION
October 11 - Career Trek Group Meeting/Preparation (on-campus; 12:15-1:15pm)
October 18 - ESPN Visit (in Bristol, CT; 1:00-6:00pm)
Note: Fall break begins evening of 18th. Students will be back to campus by 6:00 pm.

TRANSPORTATION 
If selected for this program, the Career Center will provide transportation to and from ESPN's campus. The bus will depart Wesleyan at 1:00pm and return by 6:00pm.

ELIGIBILITY
Open to all class years and majors. You must be available to come to the preparation meeting on 10/11 and the trek visit day on 10/18 (information above).

You must have your resume approved on Handshake by the GCC in order to apply to (via this posting) and be considered for this program. Note that the resume review process can take several days, thus it is best to start this process early if your resume has not yet been approved. Please refer to the GCC's resume review/approval process and resume resources listed HERE. Additionally, please schedule a resume review appointment before uploading your resume to Handshake for the first time.

SELECTION
Space is limited to 13 students. If more than 13 students apply, students who completed the application in-full before the application deadline will be selected at the end of the application window by random lottery. Students who are not selected will be placed on a waitlist and notified if a spot opens up.

APPLICATION & SELECTION DATES
September 2 - Application opens
September 24 - Application deadline (11:59pm)
September 26 - Students will be notified of selection/waitlist
October 1 - Selected students must confirm their participation or forfeit their slot

HOW TO APPLY

2. Once submitted, you will be taken to an external application (google form) that must be completed in order to be considered for this program. As part of the Google application form will be asked to provide a short essay response to the following question: "Tell us about your interests in media, journalism or sports and what you hope to gain from participating in the ESPN Career Trek. (200 word min./300 word max.)"
