Environmental Systems Crew Leader

About the position: The Environmental Systems Crew Leader in the Portland Bureau of Transportation-Maintenance Operations Group-Environmental Systems section is responsible for providing leadership and participating in the work of a crew engaged in repairing various types of sanitary and storm sewer system piping by shoring and excavating trenches, shafts and by using trenchless technology. Work involves constructing new sanitary and storm sewer mains, manholes, and other major sewer components to replace defective existing structures and installing and maintaining erosion and sediment control devices.

Duties include:
  • overseeing a crew of skilled and semi-skilled workers and equipment operators at a work site
  • supervising the excavation and safe shoring of trenches, shafts and tunnels
  • the use of some independent judgment in selecting sewer system repair methods, including repairing and maintaining drainage ditches, culverts, trash racks and sedimentation ponds.
  • available on a rotational basis for on call emergencies
This position is a essential employee and a member of the bureau's 24-hour response team and may require after-hour, evening, weekend, and holiday emergency response.
