2020 Sustainability Career Trek Program

The Gordon Career Center is offering a career exploration program to provide students with a broader understanding of the multi-sectoral approach to sustainability, more specifically in sustainable food systems. The program begins on-campus with preparation to attend the 2020 MIT Sustainability Summit on April 24th in Cambridge, MA. The Career Center will cover registration costs and transportation to and from the conference.

The 2020 MIT Sustainability Summit theme is Food for Thought: Leveraging Food for a Sustainable Future. Students will have the option to choose from featured discussions with academics, industry leaders and expert practitioners to explore how innovations are changing the way the world produces, transports, stores, consumes and disposes of food. Participate in the Sustainability Career Trek Program to explore your career interests, learn more about the field of sustainable food and agriculture, and make connections with experts throughout the world.
 
PROGRAM DATES & INFORMATION
April 17 - Program Preparation (on-campus; 12:15-1:15pm)
April 24 - Conference Day (leave from campus at 6am, meals in Cambridge & transportation provided)

TRANSPORTATION
If selected for this program, the Career Center will offer transportation to and from MIT.

CONFERENCE REGISTRATION FEE
If selected for this program, registration costs to the MIT Sustainability Summit will be paid by the Career Center. Students must confirm their participation in the program by February 26th or forfeit their spot to someone on the waitlist.

If you cancel your registration to the conference after completing the confirmation form, your student account will be charged $100 and Handshake account will be deactivated (per our Terms of Service Agreement).

If you are a no-show for any day of the program, your student account will be charged $100 and Handshake account will be deactivated (per our Terms of Service Agreement).

MEALS
Select meals will be provided as part of this program.

ELIGIBILITY
Open to all class years and majors.

You must have your resume approved on Handshake by the Gordon Career Center in order to apply to (via this posting) and be considered for this program. Note that the resume review process can take several days so it's best to get a head start on this process if your resume is not yet approved. Please refer to the GCC's resume review/approval process and resume resources listed here.

SELECTION
Registration is limited to 13 students. If more than 13 applications are received, students who completed the application in full will be selected at the end of the application window by random lottery. If you are not selected, you will be put on a waitlist and will be notified if spots open up.

APPLICATION & SELECTION DATES
January 23 - Application opens
February 20 - Application deadline (11:59pm)
February 21 - Students will be notified of selection/waitlist
February 26 - Selected students must confirm their participation or forfeit their slot

HOW TO APPLY
1. Click "Apply Externally" to apply with your approved resume through Handshake.
2. Once submitted, you will be taken to an external application (google form) that must be completed in order to be considered for this program. As part of the Google application form will be asked to provide a short essay response to the following question: "Tell us about your interest in this career field and what you hope to gain from participating in the program. (200 word min./300 word max.)"
