The Gordon Career Center is offering an off-campus career exploration field trip to The Jackson Laboratory (JAX) in Farmington, CT, which studies the genetics and genomics of human disease. Students will receive a tour of the building, and then meet with a variety of JAX's research staff, from recent college graduates to post-doc scientists working in research areas such as the microbiome, cancer, aging and immune disorders. They will discuss their work, their training, how they entered the field, their individual areas of research, and the overall evolution of their careers to date. The day will conclude with a discussion with Human Resources about internship and employment opportunities.

The Jackson Laboratory is an independent, nonprofit biomedical research institution with more than 2,200 employees. Headquartered in Bar Harbor, Maine, it has a National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Center, a genomic medicine institute in Farmington, Conn., and facilities in Ellsworth, Maine, Sacramento, Calif., and Shanghai, China. Its mission is to discover precise genomic solutions for disease and empower the global biomedical community in the shared quest to improve human health.
