Fall Internship - Open Studio with Jared Bowen

GBH
Check with your internship coordinator BEFORE accepting to determine how you might do this internship for credit.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
Open Studio with Jared Bowen, hosted by WGBH Arts Editor Jared Bowen, is a rewarding, hands-on experience geared to prepare you for the professional, broadcast world. Open Studio is a weekly television show consisting of arts features and interviews with artists, focused on the creative process. In the past year, we’ve interviewed stars like Steve Martin, Sara Bareilles, Philip Glass and Amy Schumer; filmed inside photographers’ studios and on stages across Boston; and covered museum exhibitions about everything from Russian icons to video games.
JOB OVERVIEW
The Open Studio Intern will work with the Associate Producer as well as the Executive Editor/Host for Open Studio.
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Interns participate in the whole television broadcast operation, suggesting stories, performing research, attending shoots, logging tape, writing scripts, sitting in on edit sessions, and promoting the final product through social media. As much as we can, our team will tailor your tasks to your abilities while teaching you new ones.
  • We look for students ready to learn, participate, think creatively, and be on their best behavior, given that we often work in tight spaces full of precious items and with high-profile guests.
  • While the primary focus of the internship is television, interns also assist with the production of radio and digital content, since we cover the arts on all platforms here. You will come to understand how our converged newsroom works together by meeting other producers, reporters and editors, as well as fellow interns, and by seeing how different shows work.
  • WGBH’s local newsroom exposes students to a professional, supportive, collaborative and deadline-driven environment that helps prepare them for their first job out of college.
SKILL SET

  • Superior organizational abilities along with excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be able to work effectively both independently and with a team of people in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Television production experience is very helpful but not always required; however, a strong interest in television production is necessary.
  • Along with your resume please include cover letter, two clips or writing samples of no more than five pages each.
JOB STATUS
Internship (Part-time 20 hours)
