Student Curator for the Joe Webb Peoples Museum

In general: you should be interested in natural history collections (experience with museum collections preferred), have some background in earth and environmental sciences and/or biology and/or design (taken classes at upper level in E&ES, Biology, and/or be an IDEAS minor), be well organized, have good writing skills (contributing to blogs), personal skills (e.g., give museum tours), social media communication skills (facebook, twitter, Storymap), design skills in real life (exhibits, posters, photography) and computer-based (web).
 
Tasks for this position include:
Assist in designing and building permanent and temporary exhibits
Design signs and posters for temporary and permanent exhibits
Assist in restoring plaster casts of fossils – glue, paint, work with wood/plaster
Assist in managing collections: inventory fossils and minerals, help to preserve fossil and minerals and store with the aim of preservation, photography, digitization of collections.
Work with Specify database, excel spreadsheets
Research in special collections and archives in Olin Library
Must be able to lift heavy (~ 30 lbs) objects
