Tutor/Mentor to High School Students

Duties and responsibilities: Upward Bound Math-Science is a federally funded program that assists high school students with academic skills, life skills and prepares them for college.  
  • As a Tutor, you will help UBMS students learn by reviewing content, explaining how to solve problems, and checking completed work. Tutors will also help students develop study skills and organization techniques to help improve their academic performance. Each session MUST be evaluated in Microsoft Forms.
  • As a Mentor, you will be a role model to students, provide guidance, life skills, exploring careers, best time-management practices as well share your college life to help students gain some insights on the college experience.  
 
General qualifications: Ability to aid students in core subjects. Ability to communicate and relate with low-income, first-generation students. Must be flexible and adaptable to work with different students. Dependable and consistent.  
Each Tutor/Mentor must be adept in one specific core subject area - up to Advanced Placement or Early College Experience course.

Work location and time: Tutoring will be held at the following schools;
Middletown High School
Maloney High School
Platt High School
Tutoring/Mentoring will take place during school hours between 8 am and 2 pm on Mondays through Fridays. MUST work at least 2 hours within this time frame.
 
Evaluation procedure: Tutors are evaluated by program staff and students on an ongoing basis. 
 
Classification levels: Starting pay at $13 per hour, pay will vary based on experience within UBMS.
